Mapping Our Digital Menagerie

The first paper emerging from this research paper was published today. It’s called Mapping Our Digital Menagerie: A Monster Manual for the Megadungeon and belong to a special issue of “magazèn” (a digital humanities journal) that explores how this spatial metaphor inspired by role-playing games can be helpful in order to grasp the complexity of contemporary digital ecosystems.

My piece revisits the monster manual format of role-playing games to describe the set of digital entities and creatures inhabiting the complex me-dia ecosystems that are accessed through computers, smartphones and gaming devices. Thanks Paolo Berti, Gabriele de Seta and Stefania de Vincentis for including it in this issue, and thank Justin Pickard for proofreading and constructive criticism!
